Meet the Data Science Consultants

Hayden Le studies Computer Science and Applied Statistics; they’re hoping to join a CS PhD program after graduating this coming May. Their primary research interest is investigating how to leverage communications over social media to conduct meaningful dialogue about contemporary issues. In addition to their efforts as a Data Science Consultant, they also serve as the SSRMC’s Web Director, are on the Society of Women in Computing’s Executive Board as PR Chair, and conduct research as a member of the STAIR Lab, one of Professor Waggoner’s research assistants, and independently as an Honors Fellow. Though they swore off considering children, they are the proud parent of a herd of five guinea pigs. Heather Baier is a junior Data Science major and Computer Science minor from Warrenton, Virginia. On campus she is on GeoQuery’s GeoData team and a GeoQuery Fellow, an editor for The Flat Hat and a member of MANOS. Last summer she worked for CheckMySchool in Quezon City, Philippines where she helped to create the School Neediness Index that analyzes the different issues facing public schools in the Philippines. She is the proud mother of a betta fish, Fretta, and enjoys binging Netflix and drinking unhealthy amounts of coffee during her free time.
Mollie Gaines is a senior Data Science and GIS major, which she self-designed at the very beginning of her junior year. She is from Staunton, Virginia where she grew up playing soccer almost every weekend. When she came to W&M she decided to try rowing, and she’s been on the crew team ever since. Last summer, she worked at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in the GIST group and she is now working to combine the research she did there on human development in South Africa with the research she’s been doing here on drought in South Africa to make a drought vulnerability index as her honors thesis. She’s hoping to go to grad school next year unless she finds a really great job! Rebecca Youngerman is a senior studying data science and public health. After graduation, she hopes to get a job or continue going to school in the field of healthcare data analytics. At W&M outside of class she is on the rowing team, takes great pride in her apartment’s ~astetic~, and works on independent research for her honors thesis on contrasting perceptions of Kenyan health workforce availability. She’s worked at Johnson & Johnson, at a public health/clinical system in a Kenya, and at a non-profit health information exchange in Philadelphia. She’ll fight with you if you diss New Jersey and hopes to move back to the northeast after leaving the ‘burg.
